Amazed

Chapter 6

Adrian scrambled to his feet, soaked and bleeding.

The sedan was already fifty yards away.

He sprinted after it.

His lungs burned.

His legs screamed.

But he kept going.

He could not lose him.

He would not lose him.

The car slowed at the security checkpoint outside the estate.

Adrian gained ground.

He saw Noah’s face pressed against the rear window.

Noah saw him.

He pounded on the glass.

“DADDY!”

The driver looked back and hit the gas.

The car lurched forward.

Adrian lunged and grabbed the roof rack.

He hung on as the car sped down the winding country road.

Wind whipped his face.

Rain stung his eyes.

His hands slipped.

He held on tighter.

“NOAH! I’M HERE!”

Noah was screaming, crying, reaching out.

The driver swerved, trying to throw Adrian off.

Adrian’s body slammed against the side of the car.

Pain shot through his ribs.

He refused to let go.

The car sped faster.

Adrian knew he could not hold on much longer.

He had to get inside.

He pulled himself up, hand over hand.

Reached the window.

Balled his fist.

And smashed the glass.
