Chapter 1

Isabella shoved seven-month-pregnant Khloe against the hospital table.
Khloe’s hip struck the metal edge.
Pain exploded across her lower back, and before she could protect herself, Isabella kicked her legs out from under her.
Khloe crashed to the floor.
Her hands immediately covered her stomach.
Her baby moved.
Once.
Then nothing.
“You were supposed to give Marcus a child,” Isabella hissed. “Then disappear.”
Khloe stared up at her.
“What are you talking about?”
“Don’t pretend you don’t understand. Marcus belongs with me. He always has.”
Khloe reached for the emergency button beside the bed, but Isabella stepped on her fingers.
“You’ll tell everyone you fell,” she said. “If you don’t, I’ll make sure Marcus loses everything.”
The suite door suddenly flew open.
Marcus rushed inside and froze.
Khloe was on the floor.
Isabella stood over her.
For one terrible second, nobody spoke.
Then Isabella stumbled backward and burst into tears.
“She attacked me!” she cried. “Khloe went crazy!”
Marcus looked from Isabella to his wife.
Khloe’s face was white with pain.
“Help me,” she whispered. “Something is wrong with the baby.”
Marcus moved toward her, but Isabella grabbed his arm.
“She hit me first! She thinks we’re having an affair.”
Khloe forced herself to stand by gripping the table.
A sharp cramp twisted through her stomach.
Still, she crossed the room and slapped Isabella.
The sound cracked through the private suite.
“That,” Khloe said through clenched teeth, “was for kicking my baby.”
Two security guards entered behind Marcus.
Isabella pointed at Khloe.
“You saw her! Arrest her!”
One guard touched the radio on his shoulder.
The other looked toward the camera in the corner.
“This room is monitored,” he said.
Isabella stopped crying.
Marcus slowly turned toward her.
“What did he say?”
The head of hospital security arrived with a tablet.
He opened the recorded footage.
Every second appeared on the screen.
Isabella shoving Khloe.
Isabella kicking her down.
Isabella stepping on her fingers.
And Isabella’s threat about Marcus losing everything.
Marcus’s face changed.
“You could have killed my son.”
Isabella backed toward the door.
“She provoked me!”
Khloe’s uncle, Daniel Carter, appeared in the doorway.
He had received Khloe’s frightened message minutes earlier and driven straight to the hospital.
Isabella charged at him, trying to escape.
Daniel blocked the doorway.
She clawed at his face, but he caught her arm and pushed her away.
She lost her balance and fell.
Marcus pinned her wrists against the floor before she could attack again.
“Get off me!” Isabella screamed.
Her fake tears disappeared.
In their place was pure hatred.
Police officers arrived moments later.
As they pulled Isabella upright and placed her in handcuffs, she stared directly at Khloe.
“You think you won?” she said. “Ask your husband why he chose this hospital. Ask him what he signed before you got pregnant.”
Marcus went pale.
Khloe felt another painful cramp.
This time, warm blood ran down her leg.
A nurse shouted for help.
Doctors rushed into the suite and lifted Khloe onto the bed.
As the doors closed between them, Khloe looked at Marcus.
“What did you sign?”
He opened his mouth.
But no answer came.
The heart monitor crackled.
