Amazed

Chapter 11

The forged documents led to a second trial count.

Vanessa and her attorney, Paul, had created false signatures.

Paul claimed he thought Vanessa had permission.

Then Nora found messages.

After wedding, file guardianship amendment.

Make Lily look unstable first.

Paul took a plea.

Cowardice becomes cooperation when prison knocks.

He testified that Vanessa wanted access to Lily’s trust and my accounts.

“She said Daniel was sentimental and could be managed.”

“My name is Michael,” I muttered in court.

Grace elbowed me.

The point still landed.

Vanessa did not even respect the men she used.

The prosecutor asked Paul, “What was the plan for Lily?”

He hesitated.

“To recommend residential behavioral treatment.”

My heart stopped.

They were going to send my five-year-old away.

The room blurred.

Nora put a hand on my arm.

Breathe, she mouthed.

I did.

Barely.

When court ended that day, I went home and found Lily coloring with Mason.

She looked up.

“Daddy?”

I knelt.

She came into my arms.

No question.

No fear.

Just trust returning one step at a time.

I held her and silently promised Vanessa would never put a locked door between us again.
